I think I remember hearing that the PS3 was going to be that much because of some really great extra features like a blue-ray laser (Tb level encoding on one disk) and a TiVo kind of option that works with your PSP. I could be wrong though. My hubby keeps up with it more than I as he is anxiously awaiting the release so he can get one.
